Reading through all of the stories of Jesus' miracles, reminds me of just how amazing Jesus truly is. It seems like an understatement, but to have witnessed some of the miracles he performed and not believe... how could you have not thought him to be the Christ?! The way Jesus told parables and the language he uses with his disciples sometimes, shows me how much patience and mercy he has to wait for his disciples to "get it".
One story that particularly sticks out to me is when Jesus heals the blind man. Jesus willingly heals the man and then tells him not to go back into the village. If that had been me, I would have been dying to shout from the top of a mountain that I could see! How hard it must have been for that man to have such a miraculous thing happen and not go back and celebrate in the village. It also demonstrates Christ's humble attitude. The fact that he often in his miracles wouldn't boast about what he just did or was capable of doing, humbles me in just the small things I can accomplish (not at all close to a miraculous level). It brings me back to reality that I am nothing compared to Christ.
Later on in chapter 8, Jesus states, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it." (vs. 34-35). BOOM! What a wake-up call to my ego! Again, such an amazing use of words and truth all wrapped up into one glorious salvation plan created for each person (including me)! Thank you Jesus! Hard to follow, but SO worth it!
Anyway, on a lighter note, this video brought me back to my childhood.... can anyone else relate?
