Given that most of this chapter is greetings, I don't have a lot to say, except to note that "Ampliatus", "Rufus", and "Phlegon" would all make wonderful names for dogs. Beyond that, there are really only two parts to this chapter: a warning against false teaching (always valuable) and a doxology. The doxology consists of one (long and somewhat oddly constructed) sentence, but it manages to fit the following in that sentence:
- God is eternal
- God is completely wise
- God has planned the whole arc of history
- God reveals Himself, first in the Old Testament through Scripture, then in the gospel for all nations, to show that:
- God is deserving of glory forevermore.
One sentence, and the story is laid bare: creation, fall, redemption, and restoration (yes, I'm stealing that from Trike, it's late), all for His own glory. One sentence, and the goal of our lives is summed up: "To the only wise God be glory forevermore through Jesus Christ."
Not bad, for one sentence.
